  James “Jim” M. Bennett Sr., 80, of Cornell passed away at 7:42 AM Saturday (July 1, 2017) at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

  A visitation will be held from 1:30 – 3:30 PM Thursday at the Hagi & Baker Funeral Home.

  Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home.  His son, Richard Bennett will officiate.

  Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.

  He was born November 7, 1936 in Rock Island to George & Anne (Votow) Bennett.  He married the former Eloise “Ellie” Stachewicz on April 19, 1958.  She survives.

  He is also survived by his children:  James M. (Cat) Bennett Jr. of Cornell, John M. (Theresa) Bennett of Forest, Christine M. (Joe) Weber of Streator, Timothy A. Bennett of Cornell, Richard K. (Janette) Bennette of Cornell and Jamie M. (Ted) McDonald of Streator; numerous grand, greatgrand and 2 great great grandchildren; a brother, Stephen Bennett of Pontiac and a sister, Karen Harding of Pontiac.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William P. Bennett and a brother Ted Bennett.

  He attended Streator Township High School and then served in the United States Marine Corp from 1954-1957.  He has been employed as a machinist at Caterpillar in Pontiac prior to retirement.

  He was a member of the Cornell American Legion and a former member of St. Anthony of Padua Church.

  Jim liked to carve pictures out of wood and he will be greatly missed.
